A Dream Come True: My Journey to SunSibility’s Cyprus Fashion Show

The past couple of years have been a whirlwind for me, both personally and professionally. When I moved back to the UK in 2022 after spending nearly a year in Cyprus, I made it my mission to raise the profile of SunSibility. The journey has been challenging but so rewarding, and the pinnacle of it all was seeing my dream come to life at the Cyprus fashion show on 28th September.

Cyprus has always been more than just a destination; it’s a place where my heart feels truly at home. Participating in a  fashion show on this beautiful island was a deeply personal milestone. Set in a stunning villa high up in the mountains of Protaras, with breathtaking sea views and a golden sunset to frame our evening. 

This event wasn’t just about showcasing our new collection; it was a celebration of how far I’ve come and the wonderful community that has supported me.

A Passion for Fashion and SunSibility’s Journey

SunSibility started as a passion project born out of a love for the sun, the sea, and easy, comfortable fashion. The SunSibility Beach & Resortwear Collection is an extension of what we already do in our Classic Collection but opening up the doors and freedom of creativity in the design. The added bonus is the UV Protection !

When I first launched the brand, my goal was to create sun protective clothing that’s not only stylish but also functional—pieces that you can simply slip on and feel fabulous in. The idea of the Beach & Resortwear came to me during those sun-soaked days in Cyprus, where life is all about embracing simplicity and enjoying every moment.

After returning to the UK in 2022, I was determined to raise the brand’s profile. I worked tirelessly to build connections and collaborate with like-minded companies and individuals, both in Cyprus and back home. These partnerships have been vital in helping me grow SunSibility, transforming it into more than just a brand—it’s become a community of people who value quality, comfort, and style.

The past two years have been a journey of growth, filled with learning, experimenting, and embracing new challenges. The Cyprus fashion show was the perfect way to celebrate everything we’ve achieved together. It was the culmination of all the hard work, collaborations, and love poured into the brand.

Cyprus: My Second Home and Source of Inspiration

Cyprus has been my sanctuary for over two decades. My parents bought a place there in 2003, and it quickly became our second home. Whenever life felt overwhelming, a visit to Cyprus would instantly bring me peace. The island has a way of putting everything into perspective, with its beautiful beaches, warm sun, and the relaxed rhythm of life.

In 2021, when the world was filled with uncertainty, I decided to take my family and spend some quality time there. Those 11 months were transformative. It was during this period that the idea of SunSibility’s resort wear collection truly took shape. Living the island lifestyle made me realise that fashion could be both easy and elegant. I wanted to create pieces that reflect that freedom—the joy of throwing on a lightweight dress and feeling ready for any adventure.

To be part of a fashion show in Cyprus was more than just a business move; it was my way of honouring the island that has inspired me so much. I’ve always felt at home here, and showcasing my collection against the backdrop of the setting sun and the sea was truly a dream come true.

The Road to the Cyprus Fashion Show

Planning the fashion show was an intense but rewarding journey. I was fortunate to collaborate with Amanda from Cyprus Lifestyle Magazine and the team at Island Homes. Amanda and I shared a vision to create a unique and unforgettable event that truly reflected the spirit of SunSibility. But out of all this is a story of true friendship and she made this happen with her vision and determination. Our backgrounds and love of fashion, true determination and hard work is what makes us a fabulous duo.

Choosing the venue was one of the most exciting parts. We wanted something that was intimate yet grand, and the villa in the mountains of Protaras was perfect. It had the most incredible views, and I could already imagine how the sunset would enhance the vibrant colours of our collection.

One of the highlights was being able to work with a fantastic team who supported me throughout the entire process. This included talented models like Tia, who has been an incredible ambassador for SunSibility, and Shannon from Liverpool who flew in just to be a part of this event. Unlike previous shows where I was encouraging all the models backstage, this time, I was able to sit in the front row and truly enjoy the show thanks to the wonderful ‘Honey’ who had it all in hand. 

Seeing my designs come to life in front of an audience, especially in a place that means so much to me, was nothing short of magical.

The Fashion Show Experience: A Night to Remember

The evening of the show was everything I’d hoped for and more. The villa, perched high in the mountains, provided a stunning backdrop as the sun set over the sea. The models walked down the runway with confidence, showcasing pieces that were designed to embody the spirit of island life—flowing fabrics, vibrant colours, and a touch of effortless elegance.

The atmosphere was electric. We had live music that set the perfect tone for the evening, turning it into more than just a fashion show; it became a celebration of creativity and community. As I sat there, surrounded by friends and supporters, I couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed with pride and gratitude.

The collection looked absolutely stunning against the golden light of the sunset. The colours truly came to life, and the entire setting enhanced the elegance of each piece. I was thrilled to see how well the collection was received by everyone present.

This was a moment I had been dreaming of for so long, and it was wonderful to see it all come together so beautifully. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my incredible team, the talented musicians, the beautiful models who brought the designs to life, and of course the amazing Amanda Moss who has been instrumental in helping me achieve my goals but who too has been a wonderful friend, mentor and business partner.

A Celebration of Creativity and Community

What made this event even more special was the sense of community that surrounded it. It was amazing to see how everyone came together to make the night a success. From the musicians who performed live to the dressmakers who ensured every outfit was perfect, the collaboration was truly inspiring.

I am incredibly grateful to everyone who supported me along the way. My friends who came to watch the show had front-row seats, and seeing their faces light up as the models walked out was a moment I’ll never forget. I also want to thank our sponsors and partners who contributed to making this night so memorable.

Overcoming Setbacks: The Stolen Phone Incident

But not everything went according to plan. The day after the fashion show, my bag and phone were stolen, which threw me into a bit of chaos. Losing my phone meant losing access to social media, my contacts, and most heartbreakingly, the photos and videos from the show.

My phone only automatically backed up on the Friday, the night before …, so I lost so many precious memories. It was a tough experience, especially after such a high. I had to cancel my phone, re-establish contacts, and it took almost a month to get everything back on hence the delay in updating you on the event in full!

But if there’s one thing I’ve learned from this journey, it’s resilience. Despite the setback, I’m more determined than ever to keep pushing forward. These challenges have only strengthened my resolve.

Looking Ahead: Plans for 2024

The success of our first fashion show in Cyprus has left me inspired to do it all over again—only bigger and better! I’m excited to announce that we’re planning another fashion show in May 2024. We’re already exploring new venues and fresh collaborations to make the event even more spectacular.

This time, I want to bring in even more vibrant designs, drawing inspiration from the beauty of the island. There’s something magical about Cyprus that continues to inspire me, and I can’t wait to share the next chapter of SunSibility with all of you.
